Established in 2012 by Steve Varro, Estates of Magic was founded with a specialized and noble mission: to provide a professional, compassionate conduit for the sale and preservation of magic estates. The company’s core purpose is to assist the families of departed magicians and those entering retirement by managing the acquisition, archival preservation, and high-end resale of their lifelong collections.

What Happens When The MAGIC Dies
by Steve Varro
A lifetime of Magic doesn’t just vanish, ask any widow or widower. They have, in most
cases, no idea what all that “junk” is in the basement. They wouldn’t know a Horace
Marshall Color Changing Plume from a feather duster. But one of the magician’s
“friends” said he would be willing to clean out all that “junk” and offered $100.00 to do
so. Great, but what about those 850 old dusty books they’ve been collecting for the
past 60 years? The “friend” will gladly give you another $100.00 to haul them off, if
they’ll let him have the bookcases too. What a deal! The “junk” is gone, the dusty
books are gone, and the spouse is $200.00 richer! Sound familiar? It happens all the time. Tens of thousands of dollars in equipment is literally given away because someone didn’t plan ahead. It was a situation like this that led me to start Estates of Magic. That widow was not $200.00 richer; in fact, she was $5 to 10 thousand dollars poorer, robbed of the true value of her husband’s estate of magic. All of us have treasures among our magical apparatus, items that are as precious to usas our own children (that’s a bit of an exaggeration), but we would have a hard time selling them. Instead, we leave them sitting on a shelf slowly deteriorating when we, and others, could receive some value out of them; you in the form of cash and they in
the form of a new collectible. None of us is going to live forever, but there are several
things we can do to prepare for that time so that our art will not become a burden to
our loved ones. Your spouse may not know how to price, repair, or where to sell your collection, but a knowledgeable seller would be able to clean up and repair, price, and sell the items in your estate. As the founder of Estates of Magic, I have been able to keep dozens of people from experiencing situations like the one mentioned in the first paragraph of this article. I have since passed the reins of this company to two qualified magic enthusiasts. And if you have any questions, they would be happy to assist you in any way they are able.

In a significant new chapter for the firm, Estates of Magic has been acquired by Lawrence James and Lance Johnson, two active professional magicians dedicated to honoring the foundation established by Steve Varro. By integrating their contemporary expertise with the company’s storied history, they aim to continue the vital work of preserving magic legacies while elevating the brand to new heights of success. Under their leadership, the company remains committed to "Preserving the Art of Wonder" as they transition into a premier, museum-quality archival institution.
